SKITOURING THE HAUTE ROUTE
SKITOURING TRIPS GUIDED BY ROY SMITH IFMGA/NZMGA
Chamonix - Zermatt is the most famous and sought after tour in the world. I first skiied the Haute Route in 1981 and was very impressed by it as a skitour. Since then I have have skiied it in its three main variations many times and always enjoy being in the big mountains traversing the most spectacular part of the Alps between Chamonix and Zermatt. I generally guide it over a 6 day period of with accomodation afforded by a wonderful system of huts nestled in the mountains. Although I am happy to guide any of the three main variations between Chamonix and Zermatt, I will guide the easiest route which goes via Verbier, unless I have a group request for a different route.
